Perpignan Airport Mini Guide
Being the most southern part of France, Perpignan is home to the first seasonal fruits and vegetables due to warmer climate. The meltwater from the Pyrenees also adds to the sublime growth of the foodstuffs. Sample some fresh local produce in one of the many restaurants that line the city.
Why not visit the Loge de Mer? Being carefully built from the 14th to the 16th century is was once a maritime museum but now offers the Venus of Maillol. Nearby is the Museum of Natural History. Peer at the butterflies, mummies and insects on display. Being open from 9am-6pm with a 2 hour break from 12pm it is easily accessible.
At Perpignan Railway Station there is a statue of Salvadore Dali. He claimed the station was the centre of the universe and the grand statue is his tribute.
Travel to the southern part of the city centre in your hire car and see The Palais des Rois de Mojorque. Dating from as far back as the 13th century it has housed many Kings from Majorca, Spain
. The medieval palace is a wonderful sight to behold and a definite photograph opportunity. Being only partially restored it can only get more appealing to look at.
For more culture, why not visit the Rigaud Museum which is home to a fabulous collection of paintings by primitive Catalan artists and the local artist Hyacinthe Rigaud. The local inhabitant settled in the 14th century fort called The Castillet. This fort was the main defender of the city and is the principal gateway too.
