Who Travels to Belo Horizonte?
It’s usually people who need to be in this big city for business or tourists who are using it as a base to get to the smaller and more attractive colonial towns of Ouro Preto and Tiradentes.
The city has a lot for people to do when staying there including tranquil parks, a good amusement park and a tower called the Alta Vila which has spectacular views out over Belo Horizonte. For a city that prides itself on its careful planning and century old buildings, the Pampulha district is an eye opener. It's where architects were given free rein in the 1940s and built very modern designs.
How Easy is it to get to Tancredo Neves/Confins International Airport?
It depends where you’re travelling from. There are dozens of domestic flights to the city as well as flights from Miami
and Panama City
. If you’re travelling from outside the Americas then you have the option of flying direct from Paris
with TAM Airlines or Lisbon
with TAP Portugal
. Travellers from the UK can connect cheaply to either of the European hubs or fly to Miami and connect there.
What’s the Airport Like?
Operating at near double capacity for many years had taken its toll on the airport and its facilities and redevelopment / expansion works were proposed in 2009, due for completion in 2016. Inevitable delays pushed the project back, however the redevelopment of Terminal 2 was completed in late 2016 where all domestic and international routes to Terminal 3 were transferred and Terminal 3 was closed. Capacity is now officially registered at 22 million and a secondary runway is due for completion in 2020.
