Pembroke Mini Guide
Pembroke is a town in south west Wales in the county of Pembrokeshire. This historic old town has proved popular with tourists because of its fortified architecture and 11th century origins. It is also still largely unspoilt while having a number of attractions to keep visitors entertained such as shops, restaurants and museums.
Pembroke means land’s end and this is an apt description as it is out on an isolated peninsula. Pembroke is also close to the shipping and ship building town of Pembroke Dock which is situated on the Cleddau River. The main landmark in Pembroke is the medieval Pembroke Castle which used to be home to King Henry VII (he was born there in 1457) and his likeness has been immortalised in one of the towers. The castle is well worth visiting as it gives you amazing views out over Pembroke and the surrounding dock areas.
In terms of accommodation in Pembroke there is a bed and breakfast called Beech House Pembroke which has been around for a long time and has a good tradition of service. The nearest international airport from Pembroke is Cardiff which is about 150 kilometres away.
Cardiff airport is the main airport for the country of Wales and every year around two million passengers come there, mostly from west, mid and south Wales.
The main roads which you are likely to use when driving in Pembroke are the A4139 road, the A4075 road, the A477 road and the B4320 road.
