Poole is the second largest town in Dorset and found on beautiful Poole Harbour. From there, you can hire a car and visit the world renowned monkey sanctuary at Monkeyworld, less than 30 minutes away. A boat trip out to Brownsea Island is also a great experience where one of Britain’s last remaining colonies of Red Squirrel lives and where the Scout movement was born.

Poole in a Nutshell
Poole is a coastal town in Dorset on the south coast of England. It is situated next to the town of Bournemouth and attracts tourists due to its harbour and sandy beaches.

How can I get There?
From London you can catch an hourly train from Waterloo or take a coach from Victoria coach station. If you arrive into one of London’s airports you can also use the Flightlink coach service. Bournemouth Airport is 16km away from Poole and has flights to airports in the UK and Europe, depending on season. If you would like to drive from London take the M3 and M27 motorways for the easiest route.

What can I see in the Town?
In the Old Town you will find Poole Museum, where you can discover the town’s history from the Iron Age until today, see the logboat and a local pottery exhibition. You can also visit Scaplans Court, a medieval town house with herb gardens, supposedly haunted!

What Else can I do?
Poole Quay is the heart of the town and reflects its maritime heritage. There you will find listed buildings to explore and you can buy some of the famous Poole Pottery. You can take a harbour cruise or a ferry to Swanage or Brownsea Island. The harbour and bay are very popular for sailing and waterskiing for the adventurous.

If you like seafood, you will be spoilt for choice. Try the Guildhall Tavern in the Old Town, the restaurant specialises in French cuisine and seafood. Overlooking the marina and Brownsea Island, Fishy Fishy restaurant prides itself on using only fresh local seasonal produce and seafood.

What can I see Outside of Poole?
See the wonder of Blue Pool and stroll around the ruins of Corfe Castle. For nature lovers visit the Abbotsbury Swannery or Benett’s Water Gardens. The Beaulieu Motor Museum is a must for anyone with an interest in vintage cars.
