Palm Beach is renowned for its beautiful beaches, all forty miles of them. Many go there just to laze on the beaches and soak up the sun but pull on a face mask and snorkel and visit the Macarthur Beach State Park for some amazing underwater sights.
You can also hire a car to visit the home of Henry Flagler, the founder of Cleveland Oil and instigator of Florida tourism. For less than thirty dollars you can take high tea there on the lawns. Palm Beach itself also has some notable museums and galleries including the Norton Art Museum.
West Palm Beach Airport Mini Guide
For Winter sun, Where Should I Head to?
A great recommendation is to head for the beaches of Palm Beach, Florida where you’ll never have trouble finding a quiet spot on the 40 miles of soft white sand. Even in winter the temperature rarely drops below 70 degrees and an abundance of fruit grows nearby. For the more academic, the city itself has a number of trendy galleries and museums worth spending an hour or two enjoying.
How do I get There?
There’s an airport not far away called West Palm Beach International. Most of the flights are actually domestic but provide good connections with international destinations from other US cities. From the airport, a hire car is your best route to the beaches meaning you have the freedom to try a different mile or so each day!
What’s the Airport Like?
The airport is small by US standards but that still means very spacious and light. It’s classy and comfortable and with a good range of amenities to cosset the waiting traveller. The airport is a lot quieter than others in Florida and it’s the airport of choice for many.
What can I Expect When I Arrive?
It’s clean, modern and well organised. Baggage reclaim is quick and the airport information desk is efficient and friendly and found very easily in the middle of the arrivals hall. Arrivals are on the ground floor and here too you’ll find the car hire desks. After completing the paperwork it’s a short walk to collect your car then minutes into the city. You can also take the airport bus to the centre or a taxi.
What can I do Whilst Waiting for my Plane Home?
Check in and security does take a little while but signs around the airport warn you of this. Once completed you’ll find that the airport has a surprisingly large range of shops, restaurants and cafes to keep you busy. There’s also Kidszoo, a playground to keep the children happy and a putting green next to the PGA golf shop to keep dads happy. The food court has a wide range of meals from take away to seafood to steaks so you won’t go hungry here. After shopping and your meal, you can use the airport’s free Wi-Fi to check emails.
