Why Should I go to San Antonio?
San Antonio is a great destination for those interested in American history as many ‘nation-shaping’ events took place in the region around the city. For a detailed view of the history of the area, visit the city museum and the Alamo Mission. The city offers other things to interest the tourist including great walks along the river where you can also join a barge trip to see more of the city and the San Antonio Zoo and Aquarium which has thousands of exhibits and is a great day out for families.

How Easy is it to get to San Antonio?
It’s got its own airport just out of the city and with excellent transport links into the centre. You can fly there from any number of American cities or come in on a flight from Mexico. Sadly, there are no direct flights from Europe so a connection will be required to one of the major US airports.

How Would you Describe the Airport?
The airport has undergone much work over the last few years and it is still continuing. The work which saw Terminal 1 converted to a revamped Terminal A and the reconstruction of Terminal B completed in 2010 will continue with the updating of Terminal A over the next two years. Today, the airport is in pretty good shape taking over eight million passengers a year and processing them through a modern, efficient airport.

What is the Experience Like for Arriving Passengers?
Once you land, a jet bridge will be connected to your plane on the apron and you’ll disembark directly into the terminal building. There are security checkpoints for both terminals and it’s only a short walk from your arrival gate through security. As with most airports, you’ll arrive on the upper level and after being advised of your reclaim area, will descend to the reclaim belts to collect your luggage before entering the arrivals hall. The information booth is near the entry point for Terminal B and the staff there can help with any airport-related queries.

If you’re collecting a hire car from the airport, the desks are a little further on down towards the Terminal A entry point but the companies have illuminated signs indicating clearly where they are. On this lower level you’ll also be able to access the buses and taxis that can take you into San Antonio. There’s a bank in the terminal but apart from exchange facilities, its operation is limited to account holders only but there are ATMs should you need cash.

Will There be Things to do at the Airport When I Leave San Antonio?
This year San Antonio won the award for the best set of concessions in a small airport because of the wide range of unique stores at the airport and the different food outlets there. Once you’ve checked in, all these will be available for you to spend the time before your flight, shopping and eating. Try shops like Brookstone which sells unusual fun items for the home or the Stars of San Antonio which offers Texas themed jewellery. For great food, eat at Charley’s for superb steaks or Rosario’s for that final taste of delicious Texan food in atmospheric surroundings.
