El Paso, often referred to as “The Sun City” is the sixth largest city in Texas and was named by Spanish travellers in 1581. The land was colonized by Europeans back in 1598 and in 1848 became part of the United States. With cloud free skies and warm climate El Paso is an ideal destination for any visitor.
Downtown is situated to the south of El Paso, below the tip of the Franklin Mountains. Here you will find many buildings of great historic value and many small cafes and shops, which are reminiscent of old Mexico.  The city centre is home to a beautiful plaza which boasts some fantastic architecture and El Paso’s tallest building, standing at 296 feet (90m). 

There are also museums of fine art with beautiful paintings and tapestries, a children’s science museum and many theatres. There have been renovations to the area, so a trip Downtown is a must. In the North East you have Fort Bliss Military base, which has influenced the area considerably, a tour of the base can be arranged. The West side is an up and coming entertainment district, with a wide choice of restaurants offering something for everyone, and a selection of nightclubs, which make for a very vibrant nightlife. Getting around the city can be made very easy by renting a car; doing so will ensure that you see everything this beautiful city has to offer and you are not tied to public transport timetables, so you can sightsee at your own pace.
