Colorado is a state in the centre of America and it has the highest peaks in the Rocky Mountains.
Many visitors to Colorado come to see the Rocky Mountain National Park which is home to bears, elk, coyotes, deer and moose, among other creatures.
Colorado is also famously where Aspen is located, and this luxurious and trendy ski resort often attracts celebrities. You can drive to Aspen from the capital of Colorado Denver, in about four hours. Car rental Denver is the best way to do this fabulous skiing trip – don’t forget to request extras such as snow tires and a ski rack to make sure your journey goes as smoothly as possible. Denver is where Colorado’s main international airport can be found and Denver international is one of the world’s busiest airports.
If you re going to Aspen give yourself some time to acclimatize to the height rather than flying straight in. Colorado’s highest peak is 4,401 metres and so altitude sickness in Colorado is a real possibility.
In complete contrast to Aspen’s snow, Colorado also has a national park which is filled with vast sand dunes and it can be found near the town of Alamosa.
Wine lovers will fall for Colorado which has some of the world’s highest vineyards. And anyone interested in dinosaurs and fossils will be excited to visit the Dinosaur National Monument which has some incredible fossilised remains of huge dinosaurs. Thrill seekers can go white rafting in the rivers here too.
Other interesting cities within Colorado which are worth visiting are at Fort Collins and Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs is the second biggest city in the state and is popular with walkers and hikers who want to see such natural marvels as the Garden of the Gods’ – a series of amazing sandstone formations.
