If you’re heading for the beaches of Monastir or Sousse then Bourgiba Airport is a good option but there’s more than just the beach. In the film ‘The Life of Brian’, the setting for Jerusalem was nearby Ribat. This is a fascinating old town, mostly unoccupied, which makes for a wonderful day exploring the ruins. You’ll really feel you’ve gone back in time to the year zero there.
For another unusual visit, use your hire car to get to the Mausoleum of Bourguiba where in the middle of a sprawling cemetery, you’ll find the huge tomb of the first president.
