Where is Almancil?
Almancil is a small town in the Algarve region on Portugal’s southern coast. It is popular as a holiday destination for the wealthy and for resident expats staying at the Quinto Do Lago and Vale Do Lobo resorts. These areas attract the highest property prices in the region and have luxury accommodation and golf courses.
How do I get There?
If you are travelling from Europe or Canada it is possible to fly into Faro Airport, many charter companies offer seasonal flights there too. Once you are there, you can either take a taxi to Almancil or pre-book a hire car in advance, as in summer the Algarve gets busy! It is just a 15 minute drive from Faro Airport to Almancil and then you can explore the area more in detail by car.

Almancil is a small market town that has been heavily influenced by the two resorts just outside of town. Now, the town has quality restaurants and stylish boutiques to serve the visitors and residents of these resorts. One local attraction is the nearby church of Sao Lourenco, it has traditional algarvian architecture and is decorated inside with 18th century blue and white ceramic tiles.
What can I do in the Area?
Go to one of the many beaches along the coast and sunbathe and swim all day, just two are the Praia do Ancao and the Praia do Trafal. You can also pick from many golf courses, if you fancy a round – try Pinheiros Golf Club or Laranjal Golf Club. Why not take a horse riding trek through the countryside or along the beaches, to get a feel for local nature.

Take a drive into the Monchique Mountains and explore the cobbled streets of the old town of Monchique. There you can visit ancient monasteries and enjoy dramatic views of the Algarve coast. On the way, you can sample the sulphurous spa waters at Caldes de Monchique and cure all your ills! For nature lovers, visit the Ria Formosa National Park, a lagoon with lots of local birdlife. You can also take in the sights of the town of Faro and explore its rich history and visit the seaside town of Albufeira for its restaurants and beaches.
