Sandefjord Airport (TRF) serves the Oslo area as well as Vestfold and Telemark. The city of Sandefjord is located some seven and a half kilometres to the south west of Sandefjord Airport. The airport has both domestic flights, such as the Wideroe service to Stavanger and international flights such as the Norwegian Air Shuttle service to Alicante.
This is one of the few airports in Norway which is not owned by Avinor, the state owned plc. Sandefjord Airport, otherwise known as Oslo Torp Airport, is in fact operated and owned by the Sandefjord Lufthavn AS company.

Can you Recommend a Visit to Oslo?
Oslo is a fascinating city with the largest number of museums per capita of any city in Europe. The best are the Ibsen Museum, the Holocaust Museum and of course there are several art galleries. The best of these are the Edward Munch Gallery which houses his most famous work ‘The Scream’. Another great gallery is the unusual Vigeland Gallery which eventually became the final resting place of the ashes of its benefactor. The gallery has no windows but is famous for a huge mural depicting life from conception to death.
How do I get to Oslo?
Oslo has three airports serving the city of which Sandefjord Torp is the furthest away. It is a favourite of budget airlines which pushed passenger numbers up to nearly two million last year. It’s nearly seventy miles from Oslo but there is a bus route that connects the two. Car hire is a good idea as it will enable you to make the journey independently and be able to stop off at some of the great viewpoints as you approach the city. Taxis work out very expensive for the journey so it’s best to consider alternative methods.
What is the Airport Like?
Initially a military airport, Torp became less used as the cold war ended and different uses were considered for it. In its early years as a commercial airport, very little traffic arrived there and it wasn’t until the advent of budget airlines that passenger numbers grew sufficiently to make the airport viable. In 1988 the airport added a new terminal which was designed to allow for further expansion.
What Should I Expect When I Arrive at Torp?
All passengers have to disembark down steps and walk to the terminal building meaning that those with mobility problems will have to ask their airlines for assistance, where necessary, well in advance. In the terminal building, international passengers need to present their passports then head down to the baggage reclaim area to collect their cases. The information desk in the main arrivals hall also sells tickets for the bus to Oslo and queues can build for this service. They can also sell you travel insurance should you have forgotten to obtain this before departing.
If you’re collecting a pre-booked rental car, you’ll find the offices easily enough in the main hall whilst passengers for the bus will be directed where to wait by the information desk. You won’t find a bank or currency exchange at the airport but there are plenty of cash machines should you need some money.
What Facilities are Available for Departing Passengers?
Most of the facilities are available after security so pass through the security checks as soon as you can after checking in. There you’ll find a range of eateries including pizza, baguettes and a café serving more substantial meals. Shops include a bookstore, a kiosk selling a small selection of groceries as well as newspapers and a good sized duty free outlet. Free access to the internet via the workstations or by Wi-Fi to your laptop is available for you to keep up to date with the outside world.
