Vilnius is a thriving town, part medieval and charming, part modern and electrifying. The old quarter is extremely photogenic and has many buildings of note. If arriving there in a hire car, park on the outskirts of the old town and walk in.
Buildings there date from the 13th century right up to the 19th century, including Vilnius Cathedral with its stunning Chapel of St Casimir. After your visit here, climb the brick tower of Vilnius’ castle and look out over the city to see why it’s a UNESCO Heritage Site and was a European Capital of Culture in 2009.

Vilnius is the largest city and the capital of the country of Lithuania. The city has a population of just over half a million and is located in the center of the country.
The city has a moderate climate with cold winters and warm. Visiting Vilnius you will find that the city is built around the center town hall and there is a great diversity in the buildings architecture.
The medieval area of Vilnius Old Town has buildings that are now several centuries old and are of great historic and cultural value.
There is much for the architectural enthusiast to see as the styles incorporated into the buildings range through Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque.
In 1994, The Old Town was given the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site . As well as the buildings there are over dozens of churches to explore and also the Vilnius Castle complex that is composed of several different buildings from medieval ages.
If you want to sample some of the art culture in Vilnius there is the National Museum of Lithuania and the Lithuanian Art Museum located in this castle complex.
The city is composed of 65% green areas and has many parks to explore and enjoy, a lot of them holding festivals and concerts in the warmer months.
Some of the better-known parks are Vingis Park, Sereikiskes Park and Lukiskes Square. The river Neris runs through the city and has some great river promenades to enjoy for early evening strolls.
