Who Goes to Jersey Airport?
Well, last year nearly a million and a half people did, mostly from the
UK, attracted by the beautiful beaches, stunning scenery, flower festival, French flavour to the island and of course the VAT free shopping. The airport is very close to St Helier and so it’s the ideal way of starting your holiday here.
Which Airports fly to Jersey?
Almost all UK airports have flights there as it’s popular with older British travellers. These are mainly operated by regional budget airlines although BA and other major airlines fly there too. If you are travelling from Europe there are direct flights from
Germany,
Switzerland,
Poland and
France.
How can I get to my Hotel?
There are lots of convenient ways. The local bus no.15 goes from the airport to St Helier centre with stops on the way. Island Buses also operate a pre-bookable coach to your destination. Taxis are plentiful at the airport and reasonable at around £12 for a journey into St Helier. Car hire is another option as the island is bigger than you think. The car hire desks are in the arrivals part of the terminal but at peak times, an additional desk is set up in the reclaims area. If you need cash, there’s a Bureau de Change at the information desk and ATMs around the airport.
What if my Luggage Goes Missing?
Report it to the baggage enquiry desk by carousel 2. When it arrives, they’ll arrange for it to be delivered to you.
Is it too Early to Talk About the Journey Home?
No, when you arrive back at the airport there’s plenty of parking. If you need it, the information desk can help you with any general questions about the airport. Once you’ve checked in, you can spend some time in the cafes and restaurants at the airport. Island Market does hot and cold meals whilst The Bar does tasty bar snacks. There’s also a Starbucks there.
If you haven’t shopped yet, the World Duty Free shop has many bargains in alcohol, perfumery, tobacco products and gifts. There’s also a WH Smith for books, newspapers and magazines, a shop selling Jersey pottery, wine and chocolates plus a shop selling pearl jewellery.
If you need assistance, there are courtesy phones around the airport where you can summon medical help or reduced mobility help. The airport is almost all on one level so access is easy and induction loops plus spoken announcements help those who have difficulty seeing or hearing.
The business people amongst you or those just checking emails will be pleased to hear you get 30 minutes free Wi-Fi there. For those interested in planes, there’s a first floor viewing platform where you can take your drinks and watch planes come and go. Disabled passengers can access it in the lift.
You can go to Jersey for the beautiful beaches that receive slightly better weather than the rest of Britain. Others visit for the annual Flower Festival during which the streets are full of flower encrusted trailers and the air is filled with the scent of them.
At other times of the year, if you have a hire car, Mont Orgueil Castle is definitely worth a visit as is the Jersey War Tunnels which hid an underground German hospital during the occupation. Today, the tunnels are set up as a fascinating museum to life under German rule.
