There are few places in Europe more tranquil and beautiful than the Italian lakes and Lake Como is one of the best. The city of Como lies on the shore of Lake Como and has stunning architecture to wow the visitor including the Duomo and Volta’s Fountain, a tribute to the famous scientist.

A hire car will let you explore further afield, perhaps touring around other lakes in the region such as Maggiore or Garda. Visit there in early summer or autumn for the best experience of the lakes, as summer can be oppressive in the still, humid air.
