Leaving the station you’ll find yourself in the 12th arrondissement, home to the Opera de la Bastille, built to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the storming of the prison. If you like opera then try to get tickets, the performances are magical. During the day, you could spend many hours in the Bois de Vincennes, a huge park, three times bigger than New York’s Central Park, and home to four lakes upon which it’s possible to hire boats. At the northern end you’ll find the beautiful Chateau de Vincennes, currently being renovated but still open to the public.

Paris is absolutely magical and as well as the capital of France it’s also considered to be the capital of romance. There, the storming of the Bastille led to the start of the French revolution. Finally for some simple culture, walk the steps up to Montmartre and drift through the artist’s studios and galleries before heading back to your hotel.
