Nice Mini Guide
Located on the luxurious French Riviera, the large city of Nice is one of the classiest destinations in France.
Nice has long been an upmarket resort for European holiday makers and its fine architecture and excellent restaurants mean that your stay is sure to be done in style.
Your best bet on getting to Nice from the rest of France is to arrive via the A8 autoroute. If you are going to the airport it is well signposted though there is an accident black spot in this area so exercise caution.
If you are coming from the west take exit 55 and follow the signs for Nice centre, while if you are coming from the east take exit 50 and follow the signs for the Promenade des Anglais. The latter is a fantastically scenic route and well worth doing.
If you are arriving in Nice international airport you will find the car rental desks by terminal two and booking with Rhino Car Hire means that you can secure the best deals ahead of time.
Nice has one of France’s busiest airports operating flights to destinations all over the world including Paris, New York, Moscow and the Middle East.
Most airlines use terminal one while terminal two is mainly used by Air France and Easyjet. There is a free shuttle bus between the terminals.
One of the best ways to get your bearings in Nice is to see one of its most attractive landmarks, the Colline du Chateau, and these castle ruins afford spectacular views of the city. Another way to enjoy the panorama is to take a cliff walk in the direction of Monaco. The Sentier Littoral is near to Coco Beach but it is a long way up to rejoin the road so you should be in good shape if you want to take this on. If you like to cycle there are some excellent guided tours which you can do in Nice which usually have something to eat and drink included in the price.
It is well worth taking a stroll through the old town of Nice to really soak up the atmosphere of this quintessentially French seaside city. History buffs will also be pleased to know that it has a few good museums.
The beaches in the centre of the city, though pleasant, are mostly made up of pebbles and you should head to Cannes, Antibes or Villefranche-sur-Mer if you prefer to lie on sand.
