First opened in 1975 by President Valery Giscard d'Estaing, Lyon Airport replaced Lyon-Bron Airport as the old one could not be increased in size due to its urban location. Being renamed in 2000 in honour of Antoine de Saint Exupery, the writer and Lyonnais aviation pioneer.
2007 saw nearly 7.5 million passengers come through the gates making Lyon Airport the 4th busiest airport in France. Noted for interesting architecture, designed by Santiago Calatrava, is the fan shaped canopy shadowing the terminal.
In the terminal, not only can you find our Car Rental Lyon Airport desks, but a remarkable amount of quality restaurants. As France is famous for its cuisine, the airport is not shy of nice eateries. Sit down restaurants include Le Patio and Espace le Bec, both are slightly more limited in opening times as both have a few hours of being closed during the afternoon and Sundays. Although both are open 6 days per week.
There are more fast food restaurants for the impatient traveller. Ol Brasserie, Brioche Doree and Ramequins & Cie; the former two are open for 11 and 15 hours per daily, everyday of the week.
Car parking is very well catered for. There is a huge car park and allows short and long term parking.
There are three terminals. Terminal One is for North African and European flights from such airlines as Air Algerie and Aer Lingus.
Terminal Two is for domestic flights and short European flights such as Madrid, Rome, Prague or Venice. Taking flights from airlines such as Air France or CCM.
Terminal Three is again domestic or nearby European flights. EasyJet and Air Arabia Maroc are the airlines flying to Biarittz, Toulouse, Lisbon and London Gatwaick to name a few.
