Although Le Mans is famous for its 24 hour car race in the month of June, there are many hidden attractions in the Old Town, or Cite Plantagenet. Being set up high above the more modern town of 'new' Le Mans it is an idyllic place to visit.
Park your Car Hire Le Mans vehicle and wander around the narrow streets of the Old Town. Visit the extraordinary St Julien Cathedral in all of its magnificence. Built between the 11th and 15th century it has a unique mix of style as the building spanned over so many years. Afterwards relax with a coffee, café au lait, in one of the quaint cafes.
Should you be visiting when the Le Mans 24 hour race is on, then you will see the town bustling with thousands of more people than usual. Taking place over a long weekend in June, although many stay for around one week, you can savour the delights of the many exotic cars that the town attracts. A the same time there is the Le Mans classic, which is a vintage sports car race, having rare racing classics on show.
Take a ride out in the Car Rental Le Mans motor to Saumur. A charming little town near to Le Mans has a elegant chateau and a tank museum, harking back to its military roots.
A little further afield takes you to Angers, one hour away. There are many tourist attractions; a 14th century chateau sporting the Tapestry of the Apocalypse. Cointreau, the liqueur originates from Angers and has a tour of the distillery available.
