Dijon is situated in the Côte-d'Or département in the east of France. This is a very interesting place to visit as it was a centre for economics, politics and culture in France during the 15th century under the rule of the Dukes of Burgundy. You can see their legacy in the impressive Ducal Palace.
Dijon was an important place in religious terms and with car hire in Dijon you can see sights such as the Notre Dame de Dijon church. If you time your visit right there is an incredible gastronomic festival which is held in Dijon annually in autumn.
Dijon Mini Guide
The French city of Dijon located in the east of the country is widely famous for its Dijon Mustard, you can choose to purchase a jar from The Mustard Shop that opened in 1820, and is located in de la Libertie, which is popular shopping area.
Driving from Paris only takes round three hours via the motorways such as the E17 or A13, which clearly signpost the city, or if coming from Lyon it's a little less and will take you about two hours.
The Chapelle des Elus is a well known attraction which was built in 1738. Guests can find the building located on Rue des Forges right next to the tourist office.
Every year towards the second half of June is The Fete de la Misque. The festival is an international event also named World Music Day in which Dijon participates also. There you can see the city streets filled with tourists and locals watching many musicians play in the open air.
Outdoor fun can be found for all ages, activities such as mini golf are vast such as Mini Golf du Lac Kir, which is located right next to the lake Kir. Guests can have fun playing mini golf or just take a stroll around the surroundings. The activity and lake are only 5 minutes from the town centre.
Ducal Palace is great cultural site. The old 1365 palace is also known as The Palace of Dukes, due to it being the residence of many past Dukes. However now it is mainly used as the town hall, meaning the public cannot access the whole building but only designated sections.
Adjacent to the Palace is the Museum of Art in which you can find may interesting pieces.
