Avignon Airport (AVN), or Avignon Caumont Airport, serves the commune of Avignon. Avignon has been known as the City of Popes because so many resided there in the 14th and 15th century due to a religious schism. The city offers international flights, mostly to the UK.
For instance some flights are with Jet2 to Leeds Bradford, Flybe has services to Exeter, Birmingham and Southampton and Cityjet does flights to London City. With Avignon car rentals it is then easy to go to the nearby Mediterranean coast, or alternatively the Alps Mountains are not far away.

You can visit the historic centre of Avignon and see the Rocher des Domes and the Palais des Papes. The famous bridge of Avalon has only 4 arches left, but is still worth the visit. Once you have seen everything the city has to offer, you can drive out to towns like Orange and Nimes, as Avignon is seen as the gateway to Provence.
