Agen Airport Mini Guide
Who Travels to Agen for Their Break?
Anyone who has an interest in medieval ecclesiastic buildings would probably consider visiting Agen for the unusual design of its cathedral and several churches in the area. You’d also come here if you love the countryside for Agen lies on the Garonne River, just where the Canal des Deux Mers crosses it and the scenery here is just stunning. If you’ve got a liking for plums and prunes you may also be seen in Agen for this is the epicentre of plum and prune production in France.
How can I get to Agen?
Agen has its own small airport which receives internal flights only from Paris Orly or Braganca in Portugal so unless you are going to fly to Paris and get a connecting flight you may prefer to fly into Toulouse or Bordeaux. Agen Airport is just over a mile from the town and you can get there by taxi or hire car.
What is the Airport Like?
Very small doesn’t quite cover it. The terminal area is around the size of three tennis courts so you can imagine that the facilities are going to be limited when this area is shared between arrivals and departures.
So Upon Arrival, What can I Expect?
Very little really. For information, you’ll need to catch one of the few airport staff who, to be fair, are quite knowledgeable. There’s no information desk but there is a tourist information display with details of accommodation and taxi company telephone numbers. You can take a taxi to your destination or hire a car. You’ll have no trouble finding their desks at the airport but it is essential that you pre-book a car as there is very limited choice at the airport and sometimes no choice at all. No buses operate directly from the airport so if relying on that mode of transport you’ll have to walk to the main road and catch a bus there.
What About When I Leave?
You’ll need to be very self-sufficient. Restaurants and cafes are non-existent at the airport and you won’t find any shops either. You’d be well advised to take any required food and drink with you and a good book to read. Make sure that any children travelling with you have things to occupy them or your wait at the airport could be fraught. Rather bizarrely, despite the complete lack of facilities, you can access Wi-Fi at the airport. The airport can handle passengers with reduced mobility and has trained staff, disabled toilets, ramps and wheelchairs to make your journey through the airport stress free.
