Fiji Mini Guide
Fiji is in the South Pacific Ocean. Fiji’s islands are tropical and have their own international time zone. Many of them are volcanic and they are also surrounded by beautiful coral reefs making this a swimmer’s, snorkeler’s and scuba diver’s paradise.
The three largest islands in Fiji are the main Fijian island of Viti Levu, the northerly Vanua Levu which is the second largest island and Taveuni.
Other islands in Fiji are Kadavu, the Lau Islands, the Lomaiviti Islands, the Mamanuca Islands, Nanau-i-Ra Island, Ovalau and the Yasawa Islands.
Fiji’s main airports are Nadi International Airport and Suva airport. Air
New Zealand, and Air Pacific fly to Fiji directly from Los Angeles International Airport in the USA, as well as many other locations. Another option for getting to Fiji is by boat from Australia.
Having a car is a good way to explore these idyllic islands as you can visit many unique remote villages. There is never much traffic but you should still drive cautiously and wear your seat belt even if the local drivers do not. Driving at night is probably not a good idea for safety reasons and because it is easy to get lost.
If you are wondering what time of year is best to go to Fiji be aware that the months between November and January can signal the arrival of cyclones in the region.
Booking to go on trips with local Fijian travel agents will incur an extra commission charge which you may not want to have to pay. Planning your journey ahead of time is advised.
Accommodation wise there are a number of resorts in Fiji which are popular with honeymooners. Many celebrities visit the Turtle Island resort, while the Poseidon resort has the world’s first and only underwater hotel. Both these options are in the excessive luxury category.
