Sharm El Sheik Mini Guide
Sharm el Sheik is a tourist hotspot on the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt and also one of the best scuba diving locations in the world.
At Sharm el Sheik the Sahara Desert is broken up by the Red Sea which has some of the world’s most spectacular coral reefs and underwater marine life. The reefs of Ras Mohammed and Tiran are world renowned and are only two hours from Sharm el Sheik by boat.
This is a thrilling experience and you are likely to see large schools of fish including sharks and barracudas. Most visitors to Sharm el Sheik do a jeep trip into the desert and spend plenty of time at the beach swimming and snorkelling too.
In terms of things to see in the desert you must visit Mount Sinai which is of Biblical importance. If you wish to go further afield you can even take trips across desert towards Jerusalem or Petra in Jordan. Take the chance to stay in a Bedouin tent and sleep in an oasis to enjoy the full desert experience.
Sharm el Sheik grew from being a small fishing village into a resort full of three, four and five star hotels (many of them all inclusive) and offering package holiday deals.
Most of these tourists fly into Sharm El Sheik Airport and a lot of European cities operate charter flights there during the winter months. Expedia, Travelocity and Egypt Air are all a good source of flights. If you want to get to where all the action is happening, why not stay at Na’ama Bay, which has the most bars and restaurants.
Having a car is the only way to get around this part of the world conveniently and we can make sure that you have air conditioning to combat the fierce heat. It also saves you having to haggle over the fares (which can be expensive) with taxi drivers.
In fact, if you want to make your trip really enjoyable you should drive to Sharm el Sheik from Cairo along the west coast. A longer route is to come from Eilat in Israel via Dahab and Nuweiba along the east coast. This will take you a day but it is a stunning scenic drive and you can enjoy Rhino’s unlimited mileage offer. Plan your route well in advance though.
