Billund Airport Mini Guide

Why Would I be Going to Billund?
The chances are that you’ve got children, for Billund is the Danish version of Disney for all those who love Lego for there you’ll find Legoland, the biggest tourist attraction outside Copenhagen. The park has over fifty rides and attractions built using 50 million Lego bricks. Children will love it and adults can’t help be astounded by the painstaking efforts in constructing the largest toy park in the world. If you’re really into Lego, you can join the twice yearly tour package of the factory. Other attractions in Billund include Lalandia, an indoor waterpark with lots of slides and water features guaranteed to keep the kids happy on inclement days.

How do you get to Billund?
There’s an airport, one of Denmark’s biggest, just over a mile from the city and there the main operators are budget airlines Cimber Stirling and Ryanair, both of whom have flights out of London airports. Transport into the city is simple and quick, either by taxi, hire car or local bus and there are plenty of family orientated hotels around.

What can I Expect When I Land at Billund?
The terminal is large and modern having been built less than ten years ago. After disembarking, you’ll have a short walk to the terminal building along the air bridges for passport checks and baggage collection. Once in the arrivals hall you’ll wonder where the information desk is if you need advice. For this you’ll have to go up a level to the departures area. There, at the information desk they can help with any questions you may have. Tourist information is on the ground floor to your right as you exit customs.

There are a number of ATMs around the airport and exchange offices situated centrally on level 2. For collecting a pre-booked hire car you’ll need to find the company desks on the ground floor on the wall opposite you as you leave customs. Public transport, buses and taxis are found immediately outside the terminal doors and to your left.

What are the Facilities Like When I Leave?
After depositing your bags and collecting your boarding pass you’ll be looking around for something to do. In the public area of the airport you’ll find three cafes and restaurants named after cloud types. These all serve a range of light hot and cold food and drink whilst the Capella Bar serves drinks and coffees.

There’s only a small news stand in the main body of the airport which also sells drinks and confectionery. You’ll have to pass through to the departure lounge before you’ll find a larger shop selling duty free goods. At the moment the airport is guaranteeing that you will save at least 20% off the retail price of many of the goods it sells. There you’ll be able to buy alcohol, tobacco, cosmetics and perfume and gifts. If you’re still hungry, a small cafĂ©/snack bar can provide light refreshment prior to your departure. Whilst waiting for your flight you’ll be able to use the airports pay per use Wi-Fi if you have a laptop or netbook with you.
