Car Hire Costa De Adeje

"For a quieter stay in Tenerife, try Costa Adeje, but hire a car to see the rest of the island."

cheap car hire Costa De Adeje

Costa Adeje is found on Tenerife’s south western coast alongside the large resorts of Playa de las Americas and La Caleta. It’s much quieter than its neighbours but still has plenty for the tourist to do. Spend a day at Europe’s biggest waterpark, the Siam Park, or take a longish walk along the seafront promenade to shop or to see the different side of Tenerife in the big resorts.

Costa Adeje is also a good centre for exploring the north west of Tenerife with a hire car and there’s an excellent highway linking it to the sights such as Mount Teide.

Costa De Adeje Mini Guide

What Can you Tell me About Costa Adeje?
Up until the 1990s the area was simply known as Adeje and the quiet pace of life was based upon agriculture. The development of tourism, and in particular that of its neighbour, Playa de las Americas, encouraged the authorities to develop the area as a holiday resort, calling it Costa Adeje. Today, the resort thrives as a quieter and more upmarket variant of Las Americas but linked to it, and other resorts such as La Caleta, by a coastal pathway. Costa Adeje is a sprawl of hotels, villas and apartment complexes interspersed with small, but busy shopping complexes designed to cater for the tourist.

How do I Get to Costa Adeje?

As with all resorts on the south and western coasts of Tenerife, you would need to fly into Tenerife South airport. Flights arrive there from all over Europe with the majority being chartered flights from the UK. Out of season, the best fares are available through the budget carriers, Ryanair and easyJet, although Monarch is also good value for money. 7.5 million passengers arrived in the southern resorts last year through the airport and transport to the resorts is very well organised; either by hotel transfer coaches, taxi or the very good local bus service which runs along the coast.

What is There to See and Do in Costa Adeje?

Most people who visit Adeje spend their time by the hotel pool or down at the small but perfectly adequate beach. For those that like a little more excitement on their holiday there’s Siam Park which is acknowledged as the largest waterpark in Europe.  There’s also a very good animal park in the resort with bird shows, animal enclosures and a great educational exhibition. You can also take day trips from there to see Mount Teide and to the island of La Gomera

What can I Buy as Gifts to Take Home?

The temptation is to stock up on electrical goods as they are everywhere and touted as cheap because of the duty free status of the island. Whilst the products look genuine, many are Chinese copies often with minimal parts just to make them appear that they work whilst others are faulty seconds. Elsewhere, ceramics and leather goods make good gifts as does a bottle or two of the local banana liqueur.

What is There to Eat in Costa Adeje?

Everywhere you’ll find typical British pub and take away food and if you like that kind of food abroad you’ll be in your element. There are some traditional restaurants but you have to look hard for them. When you do, you’ll find delicious dishes made from locally caught fish, tapas and many dishes accompanied by ‘papas’ which are otherwise known as ‘black potatoes’ and are a little like potato wedges served with a range of sauces.

What About Entertainment in Costa Adeje?

For most tourists, much of the entertainment centres around the bars and clubs serving cheap alcohol. There are some traditional bars where you can see displays of Canary Island dancing and music but these are few and far between.
