Hamilton is a city that is situated halfway between Niagara Falls and Toronto, in Ontario, Canada. It is a port city located at the western end of Lake Ontario.
How do I get There?
You can fly from regional airports in Canada to get to Hamilton International Airport or some major airports in the USA. Greyhound long distance buses connect Canada with the USA and Mexico, if you don’t like to fly. Go Transit has bus services around the Greater Toronto Area and Hamilton Street Railways operate buses and trains in the city.
What can I see in the City?
Visit the Westfield Heritage Village, it is a living history museum where you can find out how people use to live in Hamilton. Dundurn Castle is a stately home where you can take a tour and visit the military museum. Hamilton is known as the ‘City of Waterfalls’ there are over 100, many of which are on the famous Bruce Trail. Look out for Webster’s Falls and Tew’s Falls. You must not miss the Waterfront area and Pier 4 Park, you can take a stroll along the marina and people watch from the cafes. There are boat trips and trolley bus tours from there too.
What Else can I do?
Go for Sunday Brunch at Ancaster Old Mill, it has historic buildings, waterfalls and great views. The Christie Lake Conservation Area is another popular spot here you can enjoy the beach, swim or take a walking trail. If you are feeling brave take the Haunted Hamilton Ghost Walk.

There are a large number of cafes and restaurants in the city with cuisine from all over the world, this is due to the immigrant and minority population. Start out with breakfast at Bright Spot Restaurant, they have been serving the local community for over 75 years. For the best in burgers Hutch’s is the place to go, try their ‘sportsmanburger’ then finish up with ice cream at Stone Creek Dairy – have the ‘super-duper sundae’ if you can squeeze it in! For a quick snack have chicken shwarama at Vida la Pita or visit My Dog Joe, a bohemian cafĂ© with coffee and light snacks. Looking for something completely different – try the Buddhist themed Affinity Restaurant for spicy vegetarian dishes.
Where can I Stay?
The 3 star Sheraton Hamilton is located right in the heart of the city and is close to all the attractions. If you are feeling active head for the gym or the indoor pool or just relax on the sun deck. If you have to catch up on work there is a business centre with free Wi-Fi access.
