Australia Mini Guide

Australia is notable for the fact that it is the only country in the world that covers a continent in its entirety. Surrounded by the crystal blue waters of the Pacific and Indian oceans, it shares no land borders with any other country.  Originally Australia was designated as a penal colony for Great Britain and it wasn't until the gold rush in the early 1850s that Australia began to develop both economically and industrially, moving towards the modern Australia we know today.

Australia is famed for its incredible landscape and geography, and its unique wildlife, much of which would seem to have evolved along a completely different path than many animals in the rest of the world, mainly due to the fact that as a large island, Australia has always been a closed system, with very little external influences upon its flora, fauna and animal life. Visitors to Australia will be enthralled by this diversity.

On the East coast of Australia is the area known as the Coral Coast. In many ways this is the water sports capital of Australia, with the world famed Ningaloo Reef just offshore, an extremely popular dive spot. The area is typified by long stretches of unspoiled sandy beach, diverse and spectacular Marine life, and balmy, tranquil crystal blue waters of the ocean. A popular destination with many visitors is Monkey Mia, with its sea lions, humpback whales and manta rays, swimmers are also often lucky enough to meet dolphins close in to shore. Ningaloo Marine Park is close by, which protects a large section of almost completely untouched Coral reef, which is home to an incredible and diverse range of marine life, much of which is close to the surface making this an ideal snorkelling spot. Heading inland to the Nambung National Park, where we find a dramatic landscape dominated by the intriguing limestone pillars named The Pinnacles.

The North Western region of Australia is generally believed to be one of the last areas of real wilderness left in the world, largely unpopulated, there are still places in this region which have never seen the footfall a human being. Although it must be noted that the North West also contains Cable Beach, generally agreed to be one of the best beaches in Australia. This is a 22 kilometre long stretch of unspoiled, white sandy beach, gently lapped by the crystal blue waters of the Indian Ocean; the fully tropical climate makes this an ideal place to enjoy beach life. For much of its length the beach is unpopulated, meaning you will always be able to find your own private spot, well away from the tourist masses.

The area surrounding Perth is something of a holidaymakers playground, the most popular water sports centre in Australia with every form of water-based activity available to the visitor including yachting, scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking and some of the best fishing in the southern hemisphere. This area of Australia features over 12,000 kilometres of largely unspoiled coastline, meaning whatever type of beach you enjoy the most you will no doubt find one to suit your taste somewhere .

If you're view Australia involves wide open spaces and areas of unspoiled desert, four wheel drive hire adventures and camping out under the stars after a long days driving, then Australia's Golden Outback is the destination for you. Typified by dramatic theatrical landscapes, largely unchanged aboriginal villages, and echoes of Australia's pioneering days, the Golden Outback is Australia at its most rugged. The original centre of the Australian gold rush, Kalgoorlie is still an active mining town today, although many of the original mining facilities have been converted into a living museum, and visitors are encouraged to try their hand at panning for gold. For a real taste of Pioneer life in Australia, a visit to the Golden Outback will not disappoint.
