Poznan Weather

Poznan Weather Overview:
Poznan is said to have one of the best climates in Poland situated as it is in the southwest corner of the country. With the largest number of sunshine hours a year and one of the lowest levels of rainfall, barely twenty inches, spring, summer and autumn are all fabulous times to visit.
All Time Highs and Lows:
Poznan can suffer extremes of temperature and the highest recorded was in July 2003 when it went through the 100f mark. The coldest winter day ever was in 2009 when January saw a temperature as low as -28.5C.

Weather Science:
Being a good distance inland, Poznan has a humid continental climate typified by hot summers and cold snowy winters. Rainfall is generally light and heaviest in summer, brought about by storms as the heat rises.

The Seasons:

Spring: Spring doesn’t get going until late March. Before that there will still be snow on the ground and temperatures regularly below freezing. As late March approaches, temperatures are climbing nicely and with now around five hours of sunshine a day it will feel spring-like. By the end of the season, it’s definitely more like summer with temperatures in the low seventies and plenty of sunshine.

Summer: Summer can have three times the precipitation of winter but it comes in frequent but short downpours. The rest of the season can expect temperatures in the eighties and sometimes the low nineties. Around eight hours of sunshine a day is common and the nights can be warm and sticky.

Autumn: It’s a long trip from late summer into autumn and very pleasant temperatures in September and October, which combine with lower humidity and less rainfall, make it a good time to explore the city. By the time November is in full flow, you’ll know winter’s not far away for it’s then that temperatures are back in single digits and the nights are drawing in.

Winter: If you like the thought of a winter wonderland then you’ll love this time of year in Poznan. There’s plenty of snow and the temperatures average a chilly -1C through the season. The city can look very attractive on the occasional sunny day but there are many gloomy ones.

Best Time of Year to Visit:
The recommended times to visit and be able to enjoy the city in comfort are in the late spring and early autumn. Spring sees everything green, fresh and renewed whilst the autumn gives a faded beauty to the city in its golden light.
