Where Exactly is Redditch?
The town of Redditch is in Worcestershire, England and 24km south of
Birmingham. It is most well known for the manufacture of needles, in the last century it was estimated that 90% of all needles were made in Redditch. The town’s name is thought to have come from ‘Red Dych’ – the red clay from the nearby River Arrow.
How can I get There?
Once you get to Birmingham by coach, train or air, it’s easy as there is a regular bus service to Redditch. Driving is a good option too, as you can take the A441 and M42 from Birmingham and arrive in the town in about 20 minutes.
What is There to do in the Town?
Bordesley Abbey is worth a visit, the ruins of this 12th century abbey are now an archaeological site. You can see some excavated items at the visitor centre and museum on-site. To understand more about the town’s industrial past, go to the Forge Mill Needle Museum where you can see exhibits from Victorian times.
What if I get Bored?
You can go shopping at the Kingfisher Shopping Centre and see a movie at the seven screen cinema there or see a show at the Palace Theatre. For a little peace and quiet, visit the Arrow Valley Country Park, take a picnic, cycle or try out some watersports.
What can I see Outside of Town?
If you have a hire car, you can explore much more – visit the historic Warwick Castle and the home of Shakespeare, Stratford-upon-Avon. For all chocaholics, a visit to Cadbury World is a must! Enjoy the demonstrations and learn about the history of chocolate and shop in the biggest Cadbury chocolate shop in the world.

Indian food is very popular there - try the Medina Balti or Maharaj Restaurant in town.
Where can I Stay?
The 3 star Holiday Inn Express is adjacent to the bus and train station in Redditch. It has 100 modern rooms and a bar and restaurant – good if you need to stay within the town and are using public transport. Just outside of town, 2 miles away is the 4 star Abbey Hotel and Country Club. It has a leisure centre with indoor pool and its own golf course. Free Wi-Fi is available. There are 2 restaurants at the hotel, you can have an informal lunch at Tawnys or try the international fare at Bramblings Restaurant.
