Exeter Mini Guide
Exeter city has been named after the River Exe and in days gone by this was an important commercial city within England. With a population of more than 100,000 people, Exeter is the county town of Devon and is regularly voted as one of the top cities in the country for quality of life.
Some of its most charming sights are Parliament Street, which is thought to be one of the narrowest in the world, the historic quayside of Exeter and the Royal Albert Memorial Museum. This seaside city has a laid back feel and is within easy reach of some of the most beautiful parts of Devon including woodlands and beaches.
It is home to a university as well as churches, a museum and a castle. Exeter is popular with tourists but it does not rely on them and has the feel of a real, functioning city, unlike some other holiday destinations. Although it has a long history being popular during both Medieval and Victorian times, the city was bombed extensively in World War II which robbed it of some of its lustre. The new shopping centre built on Princesshay is imaginative and packed with designer shops.
Exeter is one of the most beautiful parts of England and the city itself has many attractive parts. Exeter Airport has a wide range of flights including Caribbean flights to Barbados
Exeter Airport has flights to the rest of the UK
and destinations in Europe. There are routes to Belfast
to name but a few. You can get charter flights to European holiday destinations, while Air Transat has a scheduled service to Toronto
If you are travelling to Exeter St David’s train station there is a regular service from London Paddington in around three hours and a slightly slower service from London Waterloo
- Theatre goers are in luck when visiting Exeter; the Corn Exchange in the city centre and the Northcott Theatre on the university campus both host regular top line shows and dramas.
24/02/13 - Until the end of March, the Westgate Science Club are hosting a science 'hands on' club for primary aged children. Find out more at westgatescienceclub.co.uk.
