Exeter Airport Mini Guide
What to Expect at Exeter Airport
Exeter Airport, located in the south west of England is a lively, modern regional airport opened in 1937 and though while not large it has all the facilities you may expect at a modern airport. It can also boast of its accommodating nearly 700,000 passengers per year which is no mean feat for a small regional Airport. It cooperates with most of the main carriers in addition to facilitating charter flights to destinations such as the eastern Mediterranean Island of Cyprus
, and the eternal party rock of Ibiza.
Is it Easy to Find?
Located approximately seven kilometres outside the centre of Exeter city and only five minutes off the M5 Motorway, Exeter Airport is very well sign posted and easy to find. If you don’t drive, you can reach the airport by hopping on the number 56, 56A or 56B out of Exeter’s St. David’s station or by just grabbing a cab. Authorised airport taxis are in operation from the arrivals building and can be easily booked in advance with a requested pick up time. Those that prefer trains however may be disappointed as there is no train connection to the terminal.
Is There Anything to do There?
OK, so there is one terminal, ten check in desks, three eateries, two baggage belts, two shops and so all your basic needs will be met. The Alpha Airport shop offers good savings on the usual brands of perfume, alcohol and cigarettes, while the World News newsagents can cover your reading and confectionary requirements.
What About Food?
While there is not a large selection outlets to choose from, you will not go hungry at Exeter Airport. Sample a freshly prepared sandwich or baguette and pretend you’re already in France at the Food Village & Grill. Sip an espresso or something stronger at the Café Select or down a few beers at the Bar Des Voyages in the departure lounge. For smokers, the bar has a designated smoking area and in an airport particularly, this can be quite busy.
I Will Require Assistance
Should you require any mobility or other assistance be sure to inform your air carrier in advance and the friendly trained team at Exeter Airport will be happy to assist you. Braille instruction cards are obtainable from the check in desks and also in the security areas for those who require them and amplified hearing loops are also available from the Information Desk at the airport.
- The holiday route to Barbados has now been dropped from the airport's schedule and it is now focusing on domestic and short haul flights although the route to Toronto Pearson continues to be successful.
- This summer Flybe, whose headquarters are at the airport begin two new routes to Barcelona beginning in April and Nice beginning a month later.
