Dubai Airport Terminal 3 Car Hire - Did You Know?

  • The terminal 3 building is partially underground
  • When opened, the terminal was the world’s largest building at 1.7m square metres
  • It has 14 baggage reclaim carousels
  • Qantas joined Emirates at Terminal 3 in 2012
  • Terminal 3 has 20 Airbus A380 gates, more than any other airport

Dubai Airport Terminal 3

Once the preserve of Emirates only, the United Arab Emirates premier carrier, Terminal 3 offered exclusivity unrivalled by any other airport facility in the world. However the A380 changed all that when Qantas struck a deal with the airport to take shared residency in terminal 3. As a major operator of the A380, terminal 3 was the only of Dubai’s terminals capable of servicing this requirement. A snub in the face of Emirates at their own airport, however it’s proved a commercial success to the benefit of the airport as a whole.

Airlines and Routes from Terminal 3

The sole airline to use the glamourous Terminal 3 until 2012, Emirates still have bragging rights as the busiest carrier at Dubai Airport. Offering over 150 routes to and from Terminal 3, it is the dominant force here. Accounting for the majority of the 60 million passenger movement capacity at Terminal 3, Qantas have been out gunned at Dubai Airport. Whilst Dubai airport as a whole sits as the sixth busiest airport in the world, Terminal 3 is the busiest single terminal building with it’s 60 million passengers, no other terminal handles more passengers anywhere in the world. Qantas took residency at Terminal 3 in 2012 to operate it’s increasing fleet of A380’s as the terminal is capable of servicing 20 at any given time. However the recent introduction of Singapore into Qantas flight paths from Australia to the UK have reduced the demand on Terminal 3. The airport was used largely as a hub for connecting flights by Qantas rather than a final destination for the majority it’s services and the luxurious terminal 3 building and facilities were welcomed by those spending up to 24 hours within the airport awaiting their connecting flight..
