Pennsylvania Mini Guide
Pennsylvania is home to the large cities of
Philadelphia,
Pittsburgh and Allentown and is where the American civil war site of Gettysburg can be found. Car rental in Philadelphia is the best way to explore this city affectionately known as ‘Philly’. Philadelphia is split into many districts which include the Old City where the art house crowd convene, south Philly which has many residents of Italian heritage and South Street which is the place to go for buzzing nightlife.
One of the major landmarks within Philadelphia is the Liberty Bell which was built as a symbol of the American revolutionary war. There is also a statue of the boxer Rocky in Philadelphia. It is home to one of Pennsylvania’s major airports or you can get there by driving along the interstate 95 from Maine or the interstate 76 from New Jersey.
From Philadelphia you can drive to Pittsburgh, the second biggest city of Pennsylvania which has 350,000 inhabitants who are notably for their friendliness. Pittsburgh was built along the banks of the Allengheny River and the Monogahela River where they meet to become the
Ohio River. The town is a good place to eat and drink cheaply while watching a game in the bars with the sport mad locals. Pittsburgh is a steel manufacturing city and this is why their American football team is called the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Harrisburg is the state capital of Pennsylvania while Allentown is its third largest city. Quite a few of the people who visit Pennsylvania go to Gettysburg where more than 50,000 soldiers lost their lives in the American Civil War. Drive through the park and see the battlefields at your own pace (though the speed limit is only 15mph). Pennsylvania is bordered by the Great Lakes to the West and the Atlantic Ocean to the east.
