Houston George Bush Airport Mini Guide

Who Flies to Houston?
Houston attracts a wide range of travellers from business people to families to those who come for the burgeoning tourist industry. It’s a city that offers great cultural and entertainment opportunities which have often been funded from the city’s oil wealth.

Hobby or Intercontinental?
Houston has two major airports, William P Hobby and George Bush Intercontinental. Hobby is the domestic airport and a major hub for Southwest Airlines whilst Intercontinental is just that, with flights from South and Central America and Europe. If you’ve decided to arrive in New York from Europe then you’ll take a Southwest connection to Hobby or you might fly directly into Intercontinental with BA or United from London Heathrow.

Houston George Bush Airport

What is the Airport Like?
It’s absolutely huge. It has five terminals lettered A to E which cover a total area of 250 acres - over a square kilometre. Walking from Terminal A to E is a journey of one and a half miles.

Terminals D and E take care of international flights with E being the newest and taking all of United’s international flights. Other international airlines fly into Terminal D.

Each terminal has its own shopping malls and food courts so wherever you arrive or depart, you’ll find an excellent range of shops and places to eat. One of the most interesting shops is the NASA store where you can buy souvenirs and books about the space programme. Many of the major stores have outlets in each terminal so you won’t have to dash between them to find what you want.

What Other Facilities Does the Airport Have?
You’ll find banks and currency exchange facilities in arrivals and departures. There’s a multi-faith chapel and facilities to keep children entertained including a drop off nursery. Elsewhere, top up your mobile, laptop and other devices at the charging station, get a shoe shine or a massage, have your hair cut or styled or simply admire the stunning works of art that enhance the terminal. ‘Light Wings’, a beautiful glass sculpture hangs from the ceiling in Terminal A and is considered the most breath-taking piece on display.
