Cincinnati Airport Mini Guide

What can you Tell me About Cincinnati?
Cincinnati is an interesting city named after the Roman consul Cincinnatus who gave his name to one of the earliest societies in the US. It’s a river city, built on the Ohio River and has a wealth of attractions including the Over-the-Rhine neighbourhood, one of the first areas in the US designated as being of historic interest. The city grew on the breeding and selling of pigs for pork and this is celebrated each year in the Big Pig Gig Festival. An ideal day spent in Cincinnati would be on a riverboat cruising the Ohio River.

How do I get to Cincinnati?
Cincinnati/North Kentucky Airport is the closest to the city, yet still across the river and state border in Kentucky. It’s reputedly one of the most expensive airports in the States to fly into so you may want to consider alternatives such as Dayton, which is much cheaper for fares and still under an hour away. Thirteen miles from the city, Cincinnati Airport is easily reached by local bus, taxi or a luxury limousine. You can also hire a car at the airport.

What’s the Airport Like?
Nearly eight million passengers used the airport last year and despite consolidation of terminal space with the partial withdrawal of Delta services, the airport is still spacious, modern and well equipped.  They’re very proud there of the Airport People Mover which ferries people between the concourses and the terminals.

What can I Expect When I Land at Cincinnati?
Expect a modern airport that’s busy but not rushed. The planes offload you straight onto the concourses for a ‘people mover’ ride to the terminals. Security, whilst tight, is still quick and efficient there and you’ll soon be collecting your bags and be in the arrivals hall. There you’ll find everything you need to begin your stay including banks for some dollars, a first aid facility, a post office and a chapel.

If you’re using public transport to get into the city, it’s worth checking at the information desk in the centre of the arrivals hall for timetables and fares so you make the best choice. If you’re hiring a car there, you’ll find courtesy phones available in the baggage reclaim and elsewhere in the airport to book a car from the companies. A shuttle bus will then take you on the ten minute journey to the car rental building.

What can I do on the day of my Departure?
You wouldn’t believe the range of shops and restaurants at the airport. Dozens tempt you with clothes, books, perfumes and cosmetics, sportswear and gifts. The restaurants offer a range of cuisines in a variety of settings from fast and simple to relaxed and elegant. There’s a further range of shops after security along with cafes and snack bars for those last minute hunger pangs. You can get a manicure and have your shoes shined for you and there’s free wireless internet available at the airport too.

With nearly eight million passengers per year, Cincinnati Airport is the largest airport to serve Cincinnati and the Northern Kentucky area. Cincinnati itself is the third largest city in Ohio and while most demands for car hire in Cincinnati Airport tend to be from executives who are travelling to meetings, the city has plenty to offer sightseers too.

For one thing it has a dazzling skyline and you might appreciate that from the Carew Tower. The observation deck of this impressive building is on the 49th floor and the Carew Tower provided the original inspiration for the Empire State Building.
