Boise Airport Mini Guide

What is the Story of Boise?
Boise is the capital and largest city in Idaho. It has a different feel about it depending on which part of the city you’re in. Some think it shares ideals with the west coast states whilst others consider it definitely a Midwest city. The benefit is that you get the best of both worlds in one place. The city had the ignominious honour of its wealth coming from the growth of potatoes and developed with the settlement of the early Irish immigrants. Rather unusually, the city also has the largest Basque population outside of Spain. Today much of the city’s popularity centres on its historical and natural attractions, making it a great city for a break.

How do I get to Boise?
All flights to Boise are internal and mainly from the Midwest and Pacific Coast. International travellers will have to travel to Chicago and change there for the flight to Boise. Access to the city, three miles away, can be by bus, taxi or hire car. When getting public transport, you need to look out for the colour coded kerbs which match the colours of the mode of transport.

What is the Airport Like?
It looks fairly modern and has a multi storey car park attached to the terminal. It has a good range of facilities for a regional domestic airport and you should find that the airport experience passes smoothly.

What can I Expect When I Land at Boise?
There are a mixture of air bridges and covered steps to get you from your plane into the terminal building so if you have reduced mobility, check which your aircraft will use with your airline before you travel, then, if it’s steps and a short walk to the terminal, they’ll have someone on hand to help you. Once inside the terminal, you’ll be amazed at the architecture; light and shiny, it looks like a 21st century airport with plenty of space. There’s a bit of a walk from some gates to security and baggage reclaim but it won’t take long.

Once bags have been collected and you’re in the arrivals hall, you can approach the information desk for any help on airport matters or questions about onward transportation. To collect a rental car you’ll have to find the offices on the first floor in the Car Rentals Lobby. There, you’ll complete the final administrative work and be shown to your car. If you need cash at the airport, there are a couple of ATMs, but no banks.

And What Will my Experience be Like When I Leave?
The airport has a great range of shops and restaurants so you’ll be spoiled for choice. Some people arrive at the airport early to grab a meal in one of the airport’s ten eateries. You’ll have a huge choice there from McDonald’s to fine dining and everything in between including pizza. There are three shops there including a gift shop that has just begun selling the latest top US wines from the state of Idaho – a great gift to take home. Once your shopping and dining is done, you can relax with your laptop and watch an online movie or check emails using the airport’s free Wi-Fi.
