Matsapha Airport Mini Guide
Who Flies Into Matsapha Airport?
It’s mainly business people who have come from South Africa
or further afield to do business in Swaziland’s second city; Manzini. Banking is the key industry in the city and with Swaziland trying to beef up its offerings to tourists, much money flows into and out of the country there. Tourists are beginning to gain ground amongst the passengers who fly in and it’s expected that the route will become more tourist orientated in years to come.
How Easy is it to get to Matsapha Airport?
The only route into and out of the airport is through Johannesburg. Thankfully, Johannesburg’s OR Tambo Airport
has many international flights over much of the world including Europe, South and North America and Australia
. If you don’t mind a connection, then it’s easy!
What is the Airport Like?
It’s been on the danger list for nearly a decade now, threatened with replacement by Sikhuphe International Airport so no money has been spent on it during that time. Because of that, it’s starting to look a little ragged around the edges and with minimal facilities to start with, the shop and café has begun to wind down to the extent that you really need to bring your own food and make sure you’ve shopped for in flight essentials before you get to the airport. There is car hire available there still and that’s currently the best and sometimes the only way to get into Manzini.
