Menorca Airport Mini Guide

Tell me a Little More About Menorca
The island is also known as Minorca and the capital is known as Mahon or Mao. It’s famous as having the second deepest harbour in the world after Pearl Harbour in Hawaii. The island is renowned for its beautiful beaches whose length totals more than that of its more popular neighbours, Majorca and Ibiza. Most people go there because of the unspoilt nature of the island, as so few people visit it compared to the other Balearics, you can spend days on deserted beaches or wander through fields full of wildflowers with only the noise of the wind and the birds.

How can I get to Menorca?
Menorca has its own airport, Mahon International Airport. There are regular seasonal charter flights there from all the major holiday companies as well as year round scheduled flights from easyJet. There are a number of resorts over the island and a bus can take you to Mahon bus station from where you can catch buses to the other parts of the island. With its beauty and wealth of things to be discovered, collecting a hire car at the airport is most people’s choice of transport.

Menorca Airport

What is the Airport Like?
It handled over 2.5m passengers last year and seems very busy most of the day. It underwent a refit in 2008 which has reorganised parts of the airport, adding new facilities and modernising the internal look of the airport.

What can I Expect When I Arrive?
The airport looks big and modern and when you land you will use an air bridge to get from the plane to the terminal building. Arrivals is on the first floor and so there’s a bit of a steep walk from the plane door to the building. After a short walk you’ll pass through passport control, which can get very busy in peak season, and on to baggage reclaim. There are plenty of trolleys and the space between carousels means that it is rarely a squash.

Once through customs you’ll be in the arrivals hall and should you need any help, the airport information desk is clearly marked with a yellow and black sign and can be found near the doors, directly opposite the customs area. There is a bank and currency exchange right in front of the information desk. If you have pre-booked a rental car you need to go down a level to find the company desks and complete the final paperwork. On this level too you’ll find the buses and taxis that can take you into Mahon and on to your accommodation.

What About When I Leave Menorca?
Once you’ve checked in, which is usually very efficiently completed, you’ll have time to look around the large selection of airport shops. There are fashion outlets, a bookstore, a grocery store and a toy and game shop together with a branch of Divers which sells many travel related products. If you’re hungry you can choose from fast food at Burger King or go for traditional Spanish food at the a la carte restaurant Dehesa Santa Maria. After passing through security there is a large duty free store and smaller outlets of Dehesa Santa Maria including a coffee shop. For those that want to access the internet, there is chargeable Wi-Fi available across the airport.
