Why Should I Visit Grahamstown?
It’s a historic city, dating back to British rule and has many interesting buildings. It’s also renowned for the opportunity to do exciting things in the countryside outside the city. There are game reserves with a range of creatures and in town you can visit the churches or if you’re there in June or March you can spend some time at the Arts Festival and the Science Festivals.
How do I get to Grahamstown?
Two airports are within ninety minutes of Grahamstown; Port Elizabeth
and East London
. Neither have direct flights from the UK
but you can fly into Johannesburg
with BA or South African and connect to either from there. It’s possible to collect a hire car at either airport and drive to Grahamstown but many choose to take a taxi or bus transfer and hire a car in the city.
What Should I See or Do in Grahamstown?
For a bit of education, you can’t beat the Albany Museum Complex where you’ll find the science and history museums as well as an observatory and several historic buildings. If you’ve come to see wildlife there are eleven game reserves and animal parks around the city, all of which are easily accessed by hire car.
If you want to get out of the city, spend some time in Alicedale, it still retains its Victorian feel whilst near it you can see prehistoric cave art at the Bushman cave complex
