Car Hire  Changi Airport Guide & Helpful Information

Singapore Changi Airport is the main airport for the island of Singapore and a popular changeover destination for passengers travelling between Europe and Australia.  The airport is one of the busiest and most renowned airports in the world. Known for its efficiency, modern facilities, and exceptional customer service, Changi Airport consistently ranks among the best airports globally.

Singapore might be an airline stopover point but hire a car and you will find out that there is a lot more to it. To get an idea of what the country was like in colonial days head to Pulau Ubin Island or to Bras Basali in the north where old Singapore still stands.

Our range of rental cars at Changi Airport is as diverse as anywhere in Singapore. If you are on a budget or looking for the cheapest rental car Changi airport offers, our compact cars like the Peugeot 408 or Mitsubishi Lancer offer excellent value for money, whilst at the premium end of the market we can supply luxury models like the Mercedes E and S-Class and the very popular BMW 5 series. If it’s multi occupancy you need, we have MPV rentals in Changi Airport capable of carrying up to 8 passenger and 7 seat SUV and 4x4 rentals also. Whatever your needs, you can be confident that you will get the best deal on Changi Airport T3 car rental at Rhino.

Changi Airport in Singapore is well-connected to various parts of the city through multiple routes:

  1. East Coast Parkway (ECP): This is one of the main expressways that connect Changi Airport to the central and southern parts of Singapore. If you're heading to the Central Business District (CBD) or Marina Bay area, this would be the primary route.

  2. Tampines Expressway (TPE): Heading north-west from Changi, TPE connects to other expressways and can take you towards the northern parts of Singapore or towards the western side.

  3. Pan Island Expressway (PIE): By first connecting to TPE and then transitioning to PIE, you can move towards the western parts of Singapore or loop down to the southern parts.

  4. Seletar Expressway (SLE): Connecting from TPE to SLE will take you to the north and north-western parts of Singapore.

As for tolls:

  • Singapore uses the Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) system. It's an electronic toll collection system which charges vehicles based on the road they use and the time of day. Not all roads have ERP gantries, but some key areas in the central parts of the city and specific expressways do.
  • When driving from Changi Airport, typically, you won't immediately encounter any ERP gantries, but as you get closer to the city center, especially on the ECP, you might.
  • Vehicles in Singapore are usually equipped with an In-Vehicle Unit (IU) where a stored-value card (known as the CashCard) is inserted. The ERP charges are automatically deducted from this card when you pass through an ERP gantry. If you're renting a car, ensure that it comes with an IU and check with the rental company about the charges and how they handle ERP fees.

Always remember to check the ERP operating hours and locations if you're looking to avoid them. The rates vary based on time and congestion levels.

There are four terminals at Changi Airport:-

Terminal 1

Whilst we do not have rental desks in Terminal 1, if arriving there of course you can still book car hire but will need to use the on-airport transfer bus network to get to the correct terminal for where your car is booked. Upon booking, your rental will be confirmed at the appropriate rental desk, so please do check before arrival to save time.

Terminal 2

Terminal 2 is very well appointed when it comes to car rentals. We work with most of the leading car hire suppliers who are all represented at Changi Airport Terminal 2. Upon arrival, follow the car rentals signs after baggage reclaim and immigration and present your rental voucher to the corresponding rental agent. It’s important that you book car rental at Changi Airport terminal 2 if that is where your flight arrived as whilst the inter-terminal sky-track is a free service, it’s much more convenient to book car rental at the correct arrival terminal, check with your airline when booking.

Terminal 3

If you’re arriving into terminal 3 at Changi Airport you’ll be pleased to know that it has one of the best car rental facilities in the entire airport and indeed any airport in Singapore, with well-staffed rental desks ensuring an efficient process and minimal queue times. You’ll find the staff are very professional and you can be assured of a very warm welcome when renting a car at Changi Airport Terminal 3

Terminal 4

We do not have so many car rental agents with a desk at terminal 4, however, that should not prevent you from booking if your flight arrives at terminal 4. You can make use of the free inter-terminal transport network which is very reliable and runs 24/7 connecting terminal 4 to the rest of the airport.
