Genoa Airport Mini Guide
Tell me More About Genoa Airport
The main airport is called Christopher Columbus (Aeroporto Internazionale di Cristoforo Colombo) and is just six kilometres west of the city and has regular domestic and international flight services including many from the low cost operators.
Ferries sail to and from Sicily,
Sardinia, Corsica,
Spain and Tunisia from the international passenger terminal.
Genoa Genova Airport last year saw 1.9 million passengers use its facilities for holidays or business trips. Parking at the airport is easy and good value. There are 75 short stay spaces outside the terminal building and to the left together with 700 other medium term spaces and 175 long stay spaces which are both good value for money.
How do You Get There?
Thirteen airlines use the airport for routes to Genoa including the main carrier, Ryanair. The majority of flights are internal and scheduled with international flights coming from Western Europe.
Onwards Bound
Volabus shuttles can take you from the airport to two local train stations for your onward journey. There’s also a shuttle which goes between the airport and the new Marina Airport via Sestri Ponente. Taxis are plentiful but agree the approximate fare first. For those collecting a hire car from the airport, the car hire desks can be found in a separate building accessed by leaving the terminal building and continuing straight down the walkway before turning left after the short stay car park. You’ll save time and waiting in a queue by sending someone on ahead to sort out the final paperwork whilst others retrieve any luggage. A junction of the fast motorway, the A10 is at the end of the airport access road and by interlinking with other motorways you can make Nice, San Remo, Turin, Milan, La Spezia and Florence easily and quickly reachable by hire car.
Public Information
You can find the airport information desk in the joint arrivals and departures public area and a tourist information desk which only opens from April until October. At other times of year leaflets are available from a rack outside the office. Make sure you find the correct point for your enquiry to avoid waiting unnecessarily.
What Facilities are Available at Genoa Airport?
A branch of Banca Carige can be found in the arrivals and departures public area and there are a number of ATMs around the airport. The bank opens from 8.20 until 4 pm on weekdays. A separate bureau de change offers exchange facilities and is open 8 am until 6 pm weekdays and from 8 am until 1.20 pm on Saturdays.
Wi-Fi is available throughout the airport and business facilities, including the use of conference rooms are available. The Sala Genova VIP lounge offers more comfortable surroundings for passengers waiting for departure although access is restricted to certain airlines.
Can I do Some Last Minute Shopping There?
Shopping at Genoa Genova is limited. There are two designer fashion stores outside of the duty free area together with a newsagent which also stocks a variety of books. Beyond security there is a duty free shop which sells alcohol, tobacco products, perfume and make up, plus a small range of electrical and household goods.
Dining Options
Food facilities are quite good with a small range of eating options. Chef Express offers a range of café style food including sandwiches, pasta and pizza whilst the Moka Bar offers coffee and light snacks. In the departure lounge you’ll find a wine bar offering sandwiches, light snacks, pizza and pasta.
Passengers who Need Extra Assistance
Assistance is available for disabled travellers including directions and information in braille as well as a touch sensitive route to check in and to the VIP lounge. It is recommended that you inform your airline before travelling so that necessary steps can be taken to assist you. The airport conforms to EU law on disability provision.
