Toulouse Train Station Mini Guide
What Can you Tell me About Toulouse?
Toulouse is a great city and parts of it are the equal of Paris
. Spend some time, especially at twilight in the Place du Capitole for this square has seen much of the history of the city. Originally planned out in the 12th century, many of the grand buildings have undergone several redesigns of their facades whilst still bearing some internal evidence of their earlier construction. The losers in religious quarrels and revolutions have been tried and executed in the square where today people just sit and watch the world go by. You can continue your historical tour of Toulouse by walking the banks of the Garonne and marvelling at the old bridges and buildings best seen from the river.
I Know Toulouse has an Airport but can I get There by Train?
Toulouse is a great destination for those travelling by train. It’s the central point of routes to six different cities around France including Paris, Bordeaux, Nantes
, and Carcassonne. Additionally, it’s possible to get to Geneva from the station. Many of the trains are the high speed TGV, making some of the journeys quicker than the equivalent flight.
What’s the Station Like?
The building is an architectural masterpiece in its own right having been built over 100 years ago to look like a grand municipal building. Entering the station can be from two directions with a concourse on the western and eastern sides of the station. In the concourses there are shops, cafes and ticket booths as well as ticketing machines. If you’ve just arrived in Toulouse, you can also hire a car there from one of the car hire companies that have offices in the station. You’ll need to pre-book though, especially around peak seasons, as there is a limited number of available vehicles. Some may prefer to use the city’s subway system for getting around and a city wide daily or weekly ticket can be purchased. The station has an information desk which mostly deals with train enquiries but which can also help with directions.
