Figari Airport Corsica Mini Guide

Tell me why I Should fly to Figari?
It’s a lovely village in a stunning setting on the beautiful island of Corsica. Also in its favour is that it produces the delicious Vin de Corse-Figari wine with most of the surrounding flat land laid out to vines. Many people go there because of the semi-alpine walking they can participate in. Mount Cagna, over 3,500 feet high sits behind the village whilst a series of hills opposite hold the reservoir that supplies the village’s water for drinking and for agriculture. It’s not far too from the beaches of the south coast of the island and a short journey by hire car will soon have you sunbathing and swimming.

How do I get to Figari?
Figari has its own airport, Figari Sud-Corse Airport, a couple of miles north of the village and served by major national airlines as well as some budget carriers. Thomson Airways fly there from Manchester and Gatwick in the summer. There is readily available transport from the airport to the village and to Porto-Vecchio, some 15 miles away.

What is the Airport Like?
It’s a small airport which gets very busy in peak season but which is quiet for the rest of the year when only flights from Marseilles, Nice and Paris land there. The terminal is small but well planned and the view both from the air and from the ground is spectacular.

What can I Expect When I Arrive?
You will have had to walk from the aircraft to the small terminal as the airport has no direct transfers from aircraft. Once inside, you’ll need to get your passports checked unless you’ve arrived on a domestic flight and then proceed to the baggage reclaim belts. After getting your cases you can go through to the small arrivals hall. For any information about the airport, details of onward travel or car parking tickets, you’ll find the staff, or hostesses as they are known, at the central information desk very helpful.

If you’ve arranged to pick up a pre-booked hire car you can’t miss the companies’ desks along the back wall and once the formalities are out of the way, you’ll be heading off to your destination. There are no banks there or ATMs so you’ll have to take euros with you or wait until you are in Figari or Porto-Vecchio. The buses and taxis that can take you on your onward journey are located immediately outside the terminal.

What are the Facilities Like for my Return Journey?
You’ll need to check in and collect your boarding passes first but then you’ll find that the size of the airport has limited the facilities available. Shops are confined to a newsagent, gift shop selling locally made products and a tobacconist and gift shop combined. It won’t take you long to sort out purchases there so next on the list will be food. You may well be disappointed in this too as there is only a snack bar selling hot drinks, cold drinks and light hot and cold snacks including reheated pizza and sandwiches. Wi-Fi, as you might expect, is also unavailable.
