Chamonix Car Hire - Did You Know?

  • Chamonix’s full name is Chamonix-Mont-Blanc
  • It hosted the first Winter Olympics in 1924 and is one of the oldest ski resorts in Europe with records of the sport there going back to 1741
  • Being so close to Mont Blanc, Chamonix is also a popular centre for mountain climbing
  • There’s a record of human habitation in the town dating back to 1091
  • Not surprisingly, the town is twinned with other famous ski resorts such as Aspen, Courmayeur and Garmisch Partenkirchen

Chamonix Mini Guide

Why is Chamonix so Popular?
The answer is quite clear to those who know the resort. It’s got probably the finest skiing in the French Alps including access to summer skiing in the high alpine passes. Not only that but it’s also got brilliant facilities developed over the century or more of skiing in the resort. The fun doesn’t stop in summer either when eyes turn to hiking and climbing in one of Europe’s most picturesque landscapes.

How do I get to Chamonix?
The most convenient airport for Chamonix is Geneva Airport, an hour away to the south that straddles the border of France and Switzerland. Make sure that when you arrive, you choose to exit on the French side of the French side of the airport. You can collect a hire car at the airport or alternatively take the Cham Van to the resort and collect a hire car there.

What is There to See and Do in Chamonix?
A bit of an obvious question as everything in the town revolves around ski and après-ski in winter and climbing, hiking and camping in summer when the bars fill with sun-tanned adventure sports enthusiasts keen to tell their latest stories. For a more relaxing time, you can see a lot of the valley and the mountains with a trip on one of the several cable cars in and around the resort as well as using the rack railway to visit Mer de Glace to see Europe’s largest glacier.

Chamonix has been a popular ski destination for centuries and in summer it retains its popularity with great hiking trails and some skiing in the higher valleys. If you’re wondering how to get to the slopes from the airport, let us take care of that worry for you by supplying a Chamonix hire car complete with a ski rack for your equipment and either snow chains or winter tyres to make your journey to the slopes safer. Our customers find that a Chamonix hire car is the best way to get around the resort and ski runs rather than have to stand around in the cold waiting for buses or taxis. It can also be a great way to save money with the convenience of your own way of getting to restaurants and bars at night. Chamonix car hire can be great value for money, especially when you book yours through Rhino. We include all the essentials for worry-free car hire in our low price so you don’t have to think about how much extra you’ll have to pay for comprehensive insurance, collision damage protection and roadside assistance. Because of this we don’t think you’ll find a cheaper deal for Chamonix car hire.
