Auxerre Mini Guide

Located in Burgundy France, Auxerre is a historical city with much to see and do for the visitor. It is also a great base to get out and see other parts of France once you have hired a car. It is only 15 minutes away from the world famous winemaking town of Chablis and equidistant from Paris and Dijon, both of which are about 160 kilometres away by car. To get to those cities use the A6 motorway and take the A26 Troyes-Bourges motorway junction. Auxerre is also only 20 km from Pontigny Abbey, 45 kilometres from St Fargeau Castle, 60 kilometres from Vezelay Basilica and 80 kilometres from Troyes.

This historically protected town is an interesting place to visit, the cathedral dominates the skyline and a range of major churches are found throughout the historic town.
Local food for a picnic can be picked up at the ‘hypermarche’ LeClerc, located on the northeast side of the river shortly after crossing the Rue du Pont. The city is small enough to walk around taking in all of the wonderful sites in a short space of time.
