Nadi Airport Mini Guide
Heart of the South Pacific
Nadi Airport is the main international airport serving the Fijian Islands, it is located on the western side of Viti Levu and close to Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands which are the main tourist centres of the islands. In the heart of the South Pacific, the Fiji Islands are a very convenient and popular stopover point for flights travelling between the USA and Canada
and New Zealand.
Stopover in Pacific Paradise
Although an international airport, it is not a large one, even though it does have all the usual facilities you might expect. So the best place to spend your stopover time in Fiji is at one of the luxurious hotels. There are a couple of hotels just across the road from the airport if you are on a tight schedule, which are handy for catching an early flight out of Nadi Airport. The Raffles Gateway Hotel is the closest and although only a 3 star establishment, it offers good value, high standard accommodation with two swimming pools, one complete with a water slide – ideal if you're travelling with children.
Having a Business Stopover?
If you're travelling on business maybe it would be more convenient and cost effective to meet your associates halfway across the Pacific for a meeting. If so there is a Conference Suite at the Raffles Gateway with all the facilities you may require, or maybe you'd like to try the Tokatoka Hotel just a little further away from the airport where there is a conference room holding up to 100 people.
Gateway to the Rest of Fiji or Just Stay and Relax
Nadi, being the main entry and exit point of the islands is more often a place used for very short stays before onward travel to another island, however, it has much to offer in it's own right. Maybe a visit to Denarau Island? This island is joined by a causeway and is home to a marina, luxury resorts and a championship golf course. It is also the home of the Shotover Jet speedboat which departs to other Fijian islands every 30 minutes seven days a week.
Another popular attraction close to Nadi is the Garden of the Sleeping Giant, this garden was developed by the late Raymond Burr (of Perry Mason and Ironside fame), to house his collection of orchids in 1977 – it now houses the largest collection in Fiji.
Just as you would expect, the beaches in Fiji are legendary, it would be a great shame to pass up the chance to visit some during your stay and perhaps take in some water sports. There are numerous activities available including, snorkeling, parasailing and water skiing.
