. Its wealth was built upon the cod fishing of the North Atlantic which collapsed in the 90s before its popularity resumed with the discovery of oil and gas off the Canadian coast. Today it is a fast growing city with commercial importance and growing tourism based on Americans tracing their roots back to the early days of American settlement.
