Calgary Airport Mini Guide
Canada’s 4th biggest airport, Calgary International (YYC) is 17 km northeast of Downtown Calgary. The airport serves over 60 destinations with non-stop flights, including cities in Canada, America, the Caribbean, Europe and East Asia. More than 12 million travellers pass through the airport each year. Development is on-going, with a 4th runway being built, which is likely to be in service by 2014.
If travelling by car, there are many convenient parking options including Short Term, Long Term, Over-height and Economy. You will find the Rental Car companies on the departures level across the roadway from the main terminal building. It can be accessed by the elevator lobby across the arrivals roadway. Taxis are located on the arrivals level and for a bit of luxury, Sedans are also available. Bus services are regular to and from Calgary International Airport, via route number 100 and 430. As there is no train station at the airport, bus number 57 connects to Whitehorn Station, which is around 5km south of the airport.
With over 50 shops to choose from, you will not be short of anything. For fashion and travel accessories, $20 boutique sells products at great value and Sunglass Hut provides the latest brands at competitive prices. For chocolate lovers or for a gift for a special person, Purdy’s Chocolates is a Canadian tradition, dating back nearly 100 years and Mac’s Convenience Store stocks travel necessities, from maps and phone cards to newspapers and magazines.
Eating and Drinking
From fresh fruit or vegetable smoothies at Jugo Juice, to great tasting sandwiches at Subway, you are well catered for there, with over 30 choices to choose from. For a full menu there is also Cheers Bar and Restaurant, based on the famous TV series “Cheers” or for an oriental flavour, Manchu Wok has a tantalizing menu.
Services and Facilities
Wi-Fi, currency exchange and ATMs are available at the airport. Four kiosks are located on the arrivals level and are great meeting points for organisations or groups. Each unit has a lockable storage unit, seating and a banner display area. There are 2 executive lounges, for that extra comfort. A porter service can also be requested and should be booked before travelling to the airport. For a secure place for your belongings, luggage storage services are there.
On arrival at the airport, the White Hat Volunteers will be pleased to help with any information needed. They also operate a Club Car service which can shuttle you around. 09/06/12 - As well as the completed new runway, Calgary is building a new international terminal with 22 additional gates which, when opened in 2015, will increase the airport's capacity by a further eight million passengers a year.
