Where is Townsville Airport?
Townsville Airport or Garbutt Airport as it is known locally is in the north of Queensland, Australia. It shares its base with RAAF Townsville and is 5km from the city. Can I get to the City Easily?
The Sunbus route 5 or 5A will take you into the city or you can pre-book an airport shuttle bus to your accommodation. Taxis leave from the north end of the terminal for a speedy transfer. Rental car desks can be found in arrivals, if you decide to hire a car – it is an easy drive to the city and a good way to explore the whole area.

Walk up Castle Hill and see the views of the city and Magnetic Island. Take the Heritage Trail walking tour around Mackay to understand more about the city and its history. In the city you will find plenty of opportunity to shop until you drop or taste the best in local produce at one of the cafes. If you have a whole day to spare, why not catch the cat ferry to Magnetic Island and discover the beaches and national park. It’s a great place for adventure sports and horse riding too.
