How much is a Ford Mustang?

Mustang rental is one of the most popular model of rental car we arrange across the US, with nearly 1 in 4 of all USA rental cars booked through Rhino being a Mustang. Whilst a frequent sight if driving in the USA, the Mustang is a much rarer sight on UK and European roads. Ford only officially exported the Mustang to the European market in 2015, so prior to then, any Mustang seen on the roads in the UK or Europe were grey imports making them even less common.

It proved a good decision by Ford however as the Mustang proved hugely popular in both the UK and the rest of Europe and was the top selling sports coupe worldwide, outselling the iconic Porsche 911 in its own backyard of Germany and 13 other European markets including the UK and Spain.  Demand from China was also strong with 7,125 Mustangs sold equating to nearly as many as Germany and the UK combined. Since Ford started exporting the Mustang to global markets in 2015, it has sold over half a million Mustangs around the world with the most popular configuration unsurprisingly being the 5.0 ltr GT, after all a big V8 is the point of an American muscle car is it not?

Why is the Mustang more expensive in the UK and Europe?

Export costs of course play a part, however it’s also a commercial decision by Ford to maximise profits. Built at Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan, the Mustang is a true American muscle car and exporting it around the world of course carries a cost, not to mention import / export duty. From there, the Mustang is priced at a point in the market where Ford consider it good value against its competition. As shows above, it must still represent good value for money in Europe, despite being nearly double the comparable price to the US market as it has outsold the Porsche 911 in 13 European markets.
